EFE.- Mexican temporary farm workers will be vaccinated against Covid-19 in the province of British Columbia in Canada, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Wednesday.
“As a result of the dialogue and negotiations between the Ministry of Health, the British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture and the Mexican Consulate General in Vancouver, Starting today, Mexicans who participate in the Temporary Agricultural Worker Program (PTAT) will be vaccinated in this province of Canada.”, Detailed the chancellery in a bulletin.
The PTAT is based on a bilateral agreement between Mexico and Canada which guarantees a “Orderly, legal and secure migration”, he pointed out.
In the first place The vaccine will be applied to 468 Mexican workers who are currently serving mandatory quarantine at hotels designated by the province.

Later, thanks to mobile units, the more than 1,700 Mexican workers who already work on various farms will be vaccinated, Foreign Relations said.
In order to achieve full vaccination of Mexican workers, a “strict protocol and procedure will be followed and supervised” by the Mexican Consulate General in Vancouver.
For this there will be the support of doctors in the field and interviews in Spanish about the vaccine and the process that will be followed.
Besides worker consent must be obtained to receive the vaccine and attention will be paid to any kind of side reaction.
“If a second dose is needed, it will be administered directly to nearby work centers or clinics,” the foreign ministry said.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations thanked “the humanitarian gesture and the priority given by the province of British Columbia to Mexican workers considered essential ”to the Canadian economy, he concluded.
Each year, thousands of foreigners are employed by Canadian agricultural companies, but activists and NGOs say the recruiting process paves the way for the exploitation of these workers.
Last year, Canada reported a high number of Covid-19 infections from foreign day laborers.
