Jamal has been a judge of the Ontario Court of Appeal since 2019. He is a lawyer trained and has appeared before the Supreme Court in 35 appeals to deal with a wide range of civil, constitutional, criminal and regulatory issues.

Jamal was born in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, in 1967. He then immigrated with his family to England in 1969, where he says he was ridiculed and harassed because of his name, religion and the color of his skin. . He then moved to Canada in 1981.
