The US Congressional Senate Foreign Affairs Committee passed a resolution calling on the country’s government, in cooperation with its allies, to step up pressure on Belarusian authorities. This was announced on his official Twitter page by the chairman of this committee, Robert Menendez. The document demands new presidential and parliamentary elections in Belarus.

“We call for the holding of new presidential and parliamentary elections in Belarus, which must be free and fair, in accordance with OSCE standards, with the participation of OSCE observers and independent local observers,” said the President. resolution.

He also notes that the senators intend to “refuse to recognize the current President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko as the legally elected head of the republic”. To exert maximum pressure on the Lukashenka regime, the United States has called for close cooperation between the governments of the EU, Britain, Canada and other countries. Washington welcomes the EU sanctions against Minsk and calls for the coordination of additional measures.

Previously, Lukashenka had accused the West of interfering in Minsk’s internal affairs. He also noted that the failed coup attempt did not change the enemy’s plans and is still aimed at changing the government of the country. According to him, at the moment, to achieve this goal, sanctions are used, demonstrations, extremism and terrorism are financed.
