The PointsBet Invitational 2024 took place this past weekend at the Markin MacPhail Center in Calgary, Alberta. On Sunday, Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario won the PointsBet Invitational women’s final for the second year in a row after defeating Kayla Skrlik of Calgary, Alberta 8-3.

Homan got off to a fantastic start as she picked up points in the second and third rounds to take a 3-0 lead. After Skrlik got within a single point, Homan hit the hammer for two points in the sixth end and stole three points in the seventh end to take an 8-1 lead. When Homan won the PointsBet Invitational in Oakville, Ontario last season, she defeated Kerri Einarson of Winnipeg, Manitoba, 9-7 in the final.

So far in the month of September, Homan has a perfect record of 12 wins and zero losses. In addition to her four wins in Calgary, Homan’s team won the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic in Cornwall, Ontario. After the win in Cornwall, Homan and her team were photographed wearing pink hats in honor of Jenkins, one of Canada’s all-time greatest ice cream makers, who wore a pink hat.

Meanwhile, Mike McEwen’s Regina-based team got off to a fantastic start in the men’s final. They scored four points in the first leg en route to an 8-3 victory over Brad Gushue of Newfoundland.
