NHL center Derick Brassard ends career at age 36

National Hockey League center Derick Brassard of Hull, Quebec, retired on Sunday at the age of 36. Rogers SportsnetHe played 16 seasons in the NHL from 2007 to 2023 with the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders, Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers. Brassard was with the Blue Jackets from 2007-2013, the Rangers from 2013-2016, the Senators from 2016-2018 and again from 2022-2023, the Penguins from 2017-2019, the Panthers in 2019, the Avalanche in 2019, the Islanders from 2019-2020, the Coyotes from 2020-2021, the Flyers from 2021-2022 and the Oilers in 2022.

In 1,013 games, Brassard scored 215 goals and 330 assists for 545 points. He had a -28 record with 465 penalty minutes, 163 power play points, 33 game-winning goals, 1,935 shots on goal, 5,275 faceoffs won, 216 blocked shots, 1,477 hits, 425 turnovers and 417 turnovers.

In the postseason, Brassard scored 25 goals and 43 assists for 68 points in 118 games. He was a +8 with 56 penalty minutes. Brassard scored an overtime winner in the Rangers’ 3-2 victory over the Penguins in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on May 2, 2014, in the playoffs. He also scored two hat tricks. The first hat trick came on May 26, 2015, in the Rangers’ 7-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 of the 2015 Eastern Conference Finals. The second hat trick came on March 20, 2021, in the Coyotes’ 5-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.
