According to Marley Dickinson of Canadian running magazine on Monday, Audrey Leduc of Gatineau, Quebec, set the Canadian record in the women’s 200-meter dash on Friday. She posted a time of 22.36 seconds at the Edwin Moses Classic in Atlanta, Georgia. The previous Canadian record in the women’s 200-meter dash belonged to Crystal Emmanuel of Scarborough, Ontario, who posted a time of 22.5 seconds at the Cork City Sports Track Meet in Cork, Ireland, on July 18, 2017.
This was a very close competition in Atlanta. Tamari Davis of the USA won the silver medal with a time of 22.39 seconds. Kennedy Flannel of the USA won the bronze medal with a time of 23.23 seconds. Leduc reached the podium with a lead of 0.98 seconds. NaAsha Robinson of the USA took fourth place with a time of 23.34 seconds. With a time of 22.36 seconds, Leduc set the Olympic standard of 22.57 seconds.
The world record in the women’s 200-meter race belongs to Florence Griffith-Joyner from the USA. She achieved a time of 21.34 seconds and won gold at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.
Leduc also set the Canadian record in the women’s 100-meter dash. She accomplished the feat with a time of 10.96 seconds in the women’s 100-meter dash at the Louisiana State University Alumni Gold Meet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The gold medal in the women’s 200-meter dash will give Leduc confidence as she prepares for the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
