Team Canada defeated Germany on Wednesday in the 2024 Men’s Volleyball Nations League in Manila, Philippines. Canada won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-18 and 25-21. With the win, Canada improved its record to six wins and four losses for 18 points and is in fifth place in the preliminary round. However, it must be taken into account that France and Japan, with six wins and three losses for 17 points each, both have one game less against Canada. The top eight teams in the preliminary round will advance to the final round on June 27 in Lodz, Poland.

Three Canadian players reached double figures in scoring on Wednesday. Outside hitter Stephen Maar of Aurora, Ontario and opposite hitter Arthur Szwarc of Toronto, Ontario each scored 15 points, while opposite hitter Eric Loeppky of Steinbach, Manitoba scored 11 points. Maar led Canada with 14 attack points and had one block point. Szwarc had 11 attack points and led Canada with two aces and two block points. Loeppky had 10 attack points and an ace. Two other Canadians scored two block points to lead the team. They were middle blocker Lucas Van Berkel of Edmonton, Alberta, and setter Luke Herr of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The Canadian national team still has two more preliminary round matches to play in Manila. On Friday they will play against Brazil and on Saturday against the Netherlands.
