Robert MacIntyre wins the 2024 RBC Canadian Open with dad Dougie at the start

It was a special week for Robert MacIntyre.

The Scottish left-hander, who is seeking his first win on the PGA Tour, brought in his father Dougie at the last minute as his caddie for the week and the father-son duo proved to be a solid combination as MacIntyre ended his week north of the border by winning the 2024 RBC Canadian Open by one stroke over FranceBy Victor Perez.

Bobby Mac opened his week with a 64 and after two consecutive 66s, he had a four-stroke lead after 54 holes, making him the fifth golfer on the PGA Tour this season to have such a lead.

Canadian Mackenzie Hughes secured a share of the lead on the first nine holes on Sunday, but MacIntyre was able to extend his lead by four strokes on the turn and shot a final round 68 to finish 16 under par. This makes him the fifth Scottish player to win on the PGA Tour since 1940, joining fellow countrymen Sandy Lyle, Paul Lawrie, Martin Laird and Russell Knox.

MacIntyre, who sank a 21-foot birdie on the 11th hole to extend his lead to as many as five holes, is the first winner of a PGA Tour event with his father in tow since Heath Slocum won the Sanderson Farms Championship with his father Jack in 2005. He also became the 16. Left-handed player to win a PGA Tour event.

Bogeys on holes 12 and 13 cut his lead to two, but McIntyre held on well until the end, making a birdie on hole 15. Perez made an 11-foot birdie from right to left on hole 18 to complete a bogey-free final round of 64, a career-best second place finish. Rory McIlroy and Tom Kim also shot 64 to tie for third place.

But with three top-15 finishes in his last five starts, including a T-8 at the PGA Championship, MacIntyre has been on trend. He has won the DP World Tour twice and also represented Team Europe in the Ryder Cup, and was in contention for the 2019 and 2021 British Open and the 2024 PGA Championship.

MacIntyre won first place at Hamilton Golf & Country Club with a check for $1.638 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.
