Dylan Bibic from Mississauga (Ontario) and Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Lauriane Genest from Montreal (Quebec) each won medals last weekend in Adelaide (Australia). Bibic won the gold medal in the men’s omnium on Saturday, and Genest, who won the bronze medal in the women’s keirin at the 2020 Tokyo 2021 Olympics, won the bronze medal in the women’s keirin on Sunday.
In the men’s omnium, Bibic placed ahead of silver medalist Elia Viviani of Italy and bronze medalist Lindsay De Vylder of Belgium. It was one of two gold medals for Bibic over the weekend, as he also won gold in the men’s elimination event. However, it should be noted that only the omnium is on the Olympic stage and not the elimination. However, the elimination component is an important part of the omnium. Other events as part of the Omnium include a scratch race, a points race and a tempo race.
In the women’s keirin, Genest placed behind gold medalist Mina Sato of Japan and silver medalist Katy Marchant of Great Britain. The Keirin has a tournament component. The medals for Genest and Bibic in Australia will give them confidence as they prepare 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
