Canadian Olympian Kristin Campbell of Brandon, Manitoba, recorded her first shutout of her Professional Women’s Hockey League career. She achieved this feat on Friday in Toronto’s 2-0 win over New York at the Mattamy Athletic Center in Toronto, Ontario.
Campbell made a total of 19 saves for the shutout. She made six saves in the first period, four times in the second period and nine times in the third period.
There were two Canadian goaltenders in the PWHL this season who recorded a shutout. In the PWHL’s opening game on Jan. 1, Corrine Schroeder of Elm Creek, Manitoba, made 29 saves as New York defeated Toronto 4-0. Ironically, in both games it was a goaltender from Manitoba who recorded the shutout, both games featured Toronto and New York, both games took place in January, and both games took place at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. The only other shutout in the PWHL this season came on January 6, when Minnesota beat Montreal 3-0 with a shutout by Duluth’s Maddie Rooney. Minnesota.
In Toronto’s win, Toronto scored two goals from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Natalie Spooner of Scarborough, Ontario. Spooner and Campbell won a gold medal for Canada 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Spooner also won a gold medal for Canada 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. With the win, Toronto improved to a record of three wins and five losses.
