According to the Associated PressThe Edmonton Oilers signed right winger and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Corey Perry from Peterborough, Ontario on Monday. The contract term is one year and $775,000. Perry won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
The Oilers are the sixth National Hockey League team Perry has played for. He previously played for the Anaheim Ducks (2005 to 2019), Dallas Stars (2019 to 2020), Montreal Canadiens (2020 to 2021), Tampa Bay Lightning (2021 to 2023) and Chicago Blackhawks (2023).
In 16 games this season, Perry has four goals and five assists for nine points. He is a -5 with 12 penalty minutes, two power play points, a game-winning goal, 26 shots on goal, eight blocked shots, 11 hits, six takeaways and eight giveaways.
Perry’s game-winning goal came on October 16 in the Blackhawks’ 4-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Perry scored at 14:46 of the second period through defenseman Alex Vlasic and Seth Jones, giving Chicago a 2-1 lead at that point.
Perry’s power play points also came into play in the Blackhawks’ victories. The power play assist came on a goal by Nick Foligno, who opened the scoring in the Blackhawks’ 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers on November 4. The power play goal came in the Blackhawks’ 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 9th. The goal that gave the Blackhawks a 5-2 lead came from Connor Bedard of Vancouver, British Columbia and Foligno.
Perry’s most notable season was 2010-11. That year with the Ducks, he won the Hart Trophy, the Rocket Richard Trophy (led the NHL with 50 goals), even power goals (led the NHL with 32) and game-winning goals (led the NHL with 11). Perry also won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007 and led the NHL with 35 goals in 2013-14.
The Oilers have a record of 26 wins, 15 regular season losses and one overtime loss for 53 points. They are in third place in the Pacific Division and have won 13 straight games.
