Jordan Binnington of Richmond Hill, Ont., recorded his 14th shutout in the National Hockey League on Saturday. He achieved this feat in the St. Louis Blues’ 3-0 victory over the Washington Capitals at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Binnington made 18 saves for the shutout. He made five saves in the first period, nine saves in the second period and four saves in the third period. Ethan Bear of Regina, Saskatchewan, Anthony Mantha of Longueuil, Quebec, Dylan Strome of Mississauga, Ontario, Alexander Ovechkin and Max Pacioretty led the Capitals with two shots each.
Three Canadians scored points in the Blues’ offense. They were Jake Neighbors of Calgary, Alberta, Colton Parayko of St. Albert, Alberta, and Brayden Schenn of Saskatoon. Saskatchewan. Robert Thomas of Aurora, Ont., led the Blues with two points as he had two assists.
In the 2023-24 season, Binnington has a record of 15 wins, 12 regulation losses and two overtime losses. He has a 2.98 goals average, a .906 save percentage and two shutouts. Binnington’s other shutout was a 5-0 Blues victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 14th.
With the win over the Capitals, the Blues improved to a record of 22 wins, 20 regulation losses and two overtime losses. They are five points behind the Nashville Predators for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
