Darcy Kuemper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, recorded his 31st career National Hockey League shutout on Tuesday. He achieved this feat in the Washington Capitals’ 2-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC
Kuemper made a total of 24 saves. He made three saves in the first period, nine times in the second period and twelve times in the third period. Four Ducks led the team with three shots on goal each. They were Alex Killorn from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Cam Fowler from Windsor, Ontario, Robert Hagg and Jakob Silfverberg.
Two Canadians scored for the Capitals. They were Ethan Bear from Regina, Saskatchewan and Tom Wilson from Toronto, Ontario.
In the 2023/24 season, Kuemper has a record of 11 wins, 10 regular season losses and two overtime losses. He has one shutout, a goals-against average of 3.13 and a save percentage of .895. Of Kuemper’s 31 career NHL shutouts, ten came with the Arizona Coyotes, seven with the Minnesota Wild, six with the Capitals, five with the Colorado Avalanche and three with the Los Angeles Kings.
With the win, the Capitals improved to a record of 21 wins, 15 regulation losses and six overtime losses, for 48 points. They are one point behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for a playoff spot.
