TORONTO – A growing number of Canadians are ready to take significant action to prevent catastrophic global warming, said Nik Nanos of Nanos Research.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spent two days at the UN COP26 climate talks in Glasgow, UK, outlining his government’s vision for climate action.

“The global community must accelerate bold new approaches to tackle climate change and build cleaner economies,” he said in a statement. Press release.

However, the heads of several major issuers jumped the summit, including China, Russia, Turkey and Mexico.

Nanos warns that the message sent could “undermine” the global effort to limit the damage caused by climate change, but should not change the attitudes of Canadians, which have already been changing for some time.

“The environment is one of the biggest issues on Canadians’ radar,” he said.

Growing concern among Canadians could prompt the Liberal government to “double down” on the climate issue, with former activist Steven Guilbeault recently appointed Canada’s environment minister.

Nanos believes Guilbeault’s appointment is a strong signal that Trudeau will take a more aggressive stance on climate change, but warns that without achieving tangible results, the government can expect public discontent.

“The Trudeau government will be judged for what it does.
