Accordingly Rogers SportsneT On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals traded outfielder Tyler O’Neill from Burnaby, British Columbia, to the Boston Red Sox for pitcher Nick Robertson and minor league pitching prospect Victor Santos. O’Neill joins his second Major League Baseball team, having played the last six seasons with the Cardinals.
In 72 games last season, O’Neill batted .231 with nine home runs and 21 runs batted in. During 238 at-bats and 266 plate appearances, O’Neill scored 27 runs and had 55 hits, 14 doubles, five stolen bases, 96 total bases, with an on-base percentage of .312 and a slugging percentage of .403.
Another strength of O’Neill’s game over the years has been his defense. He won the National League Gold Glove Award in 2020 and 2021.
Injuries were a major reason O’Neill missed 90 games last season. That’s because he missed six weeks with a hamstring injury and two weeks with a shoulder problem.
Meanwhile, Robertson hasn’t been effective on the mound in 2023. He spent his rookie season with the Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers and had a record of zero wins and one loss with a 6.04 earned run average. Robertson also had a poor WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.75.
