Air Canada has has introduced a new baggage tracking feature on its mobile app to provide “additional confidence.”” for travelers.
According to a December 1 press release, the app is designed to help customers keep track of their luggage or mobility aid in “real time.”
By scanning the baggage tag on their luggage, Canadians can use the app to see what stage their luggage is at during processing. The function is currently only available for domestic flights.
“During final development, the tracking feature will initially be available to customers traveling within Canada. Next year, it will be expanded to the airline’s U.S. flights and, over time, to select international destinations,” the release said.
According to the company, the move is intended to give travelers a sense of security.
“The new tracking feature is intended to give travelers more confidence and improve the overall customer experience through greater convenience,” the press release says.
This happens after reported problems from customers who arrived without luggage or Mobility aids last year. The company has promised to make it even better for its customers.
The tracker tells customers where their luggage is before the plane departs and where they need to pick it up.
If there is a delay in baggage return, the app notifies the owner via SMS or email.
The traveler then has the option to “easily” file a report and arrange for a delivery from their phone, the company said.
