Winnipeg police remain on scene in the 100 block of Langside Street following an incident that left three people dead and two others in critical condition Sunday morning.
The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) said the call came in just after 4 a.m. on Nov. 26 when multiple units responded to a report of multiple injuries.
“Officers located five individuals whose injuries were consistent with a gunshot,” said Const. Jason Michalyshen.
Michalyshen said a man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene. Three other victims were hospitalized in critical condition. Another man later died from his injuries, while the remaining two – a man and a woman – remain in critical condition.
The WPS Homicide Squad is investigating. Police say the victims’ identities are still being confirmed and notifications are pending.
Due to the severity of the incident, the forensic department is expected to remain on site for some time. Some residents say they didn’t notice what was happening just steps from their homes.
“We heard sirens and saw the forensic truck at the door,” said Michael Friesen, who lives nearby. “So we know something pretty bad happened.”
Anyone with video surveillance or information that could help investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS.
