Singh blasts Trudeau and Poilievre at BC convention

by Ainsley Ingram

VICTORIA –

Federal New Democrats leader Jagmeet Singh made political comments to both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre at a party conference for British Columbia Prime Minister David Eby’s ruling NDP today.

Singh, whose New Democrats have a confidence and supply agreement with the federal minority Liberal government, says Trudeau is an out-of-touch leader who only acts when faced with political problems.

He says that, meanwhile, Poilievre just pretends to care and knows nothing about the struggles and lives of normal people.

BC’s New Democrats are in Victoria this weekend, debating policy and planning strategy ahead of next year’s provincial election.

Singh says the federal New Democrats are urging the Liberal government to introduce a dental insurance program for all Canadians and will continue to fight for a universal pharmacare program to cover prescription costs for everyone.

He described working with the federal Liberals as “fighting with eels soaked in oil.”

Outside the convention hall, about 100 demonstrators chanted “Liberate Palestine,” some lying silently on the floor covered with white sheets dyed red.
