Mounties on Vancouver Island are investigating a “random stranger attack” after a man allegedly grabbed a woman from behind and dragged her into a wooded area.
According to Ladysmith RCMP, the department was alerted to the attack on Transfer Beach Boulevard near the train tracks and Oyster Bay Drive just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
An RCMP statement Wednesday said the man dragged the woman “for a brief moment before releasing her.”
Police dogs were at the scene but were unable to locate a suspect.
The perpetrator is described as 1.70 meters tall, slim and with dark eyes. He was wearing a black ski mask, dark cargo pants and a dark top, police said.
“The victim was shaken but suffered no physical injuries,” the statement said. “She is being supported by Victim Support.”
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area between 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday to contact Ladysmith RCMP, especially if they saw anyone matching the suspect’s description.
“We are also looking for anyone who may have dashcam footage during this time period and area,” said Ladysmith RCMP spokesman Const. Bryna Arrowsmith said.
