Former BC MLA to be inducted into Canadian Disability Hall of Fame

Ceremony for Stilwell, former Prime Minister Harper, on October 13 in Toronto

Four-time Paralympics MLA Michelle Stilwell is one of three inductees into the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame.

The Parksville resident will be honored alongside wheelchair basketball player Chantal Benoit and former Prime Minister Stephen Harper (contractor category) at the 30th annual Canadian Disability Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto on Friday, October 13 .

The event will be broadcast live nationally on AMI-audio starting at 9 a.m. Pacific time, hosted by Andy Frank and Jacob Shymanski. Listeners can tune in via local television providers And Live streaming. The Canadian Disability Hall of Fame was founded in 1994 by the Canadian Foundation for the Physically Handicapped (CFPDP).

“People with disabilities make significant and meaningful contributions across Canada every day. In addition, there are individuals who have made notable contributions to improving the quality of life, raising awareness or expanding opportunities for people with disabilities,” said David Crombie, Chair of the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame.

“Our new additions in 2024 contribute to this outstanding success story.”

Stilwell, who has since retired from the sport, has won seven Paralympic medals and ten world titles, holds a number of world records and is the only female athlete to have won gold medals in two different summer sporting events. She is a former MLA for Parksville-Qualicum.

Inductees into the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame are independently selected each year by a selection committee from a group of highly qualified nominees. The 2023 newcomers join a prominent group 123 former candidates Recognition for her exceptional personal and professional achievements over three decades.
