Canada’s women’s team wins Olympic football tournament
Today, August 6, the women’s teams of Canada and Sweden met in the final match of the Olympic football tournament. The meeting took place at the Nissan stadium (Yokohama, Japan), it was served by a team of referees led by Russian Anastasia Pustovoitova. The main and extra time of the final match ended with a score of 1: 1, and in the penalty shoot-out the Canadian team proved stronger – 2: 3.
Sweden opened the scoring in the 34th minute, scored a goal Stina Blackstenius… However, in the 67th minute Jesse fleming tied the score with a penalty. There were no more goals in main time and in overtime, the game moved to a penalty shootout, where the Canadian turned out to be stronger and more efficient. The teams shot 6 penalties each, Sweden only managed to convert two, Canada – three.
Thus, the Canadian women’s team becomes the winner of the Olympic football tournament, bringing gold medals to their country.
The Tokyo Olympics kicked off on July 23. At present, the Russian national team is fifth in the medal standings, with 17 gold, 23 silver and 22 bronze. The closing ceremony for the Olympic Games is scheduled for August 8. To date, 40 sports will be featured, in which 339 award series will be played.
