Black Press Media’s Greater Victoria editorial team has been recognized with four 2023 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards.
The competition, for work from the 2022 calendar year, attracted nearly 800 entries across 27 categories, ranging from photography to overall excellence.
Taking first place in the Best Multimedia Breaking News Coverage category was the Saanich News’ work on the Saanich bank shooting in June 2022.

The news team also received the award for best multimedia piece for the Goldstream Gazette’s Truth and Reconciliation series. This series appeared in all Greater Victoria newspapers and online with video.

Second place in the “Best Special Section” category (circulation 10,000 or more) went to the special publication “Speedway: The final lap” from the Goldstream Gazette.

Finally, Victoria News took third place in the Best Community Newspaper Website category (circulation 10,000 and above), behind our sister publications Nanaimo News Bulletin and Surrey NOW-Leader.
In total, Black Press Media publications were honored with 26 awards, including nine first place awards.
