Dick Wolf expands the world of law and order to Canada.
Citytv, which aired a number of NBC shows law and order Dramas over the years, has greenlit a local version of the investigative crime series, Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intentin collaboration with Universal Television.
Based on law and order In a global format, the 10-episode drama follows an elite team of detectives who investigate high-profile crime and corruption in Toronto. Law and Order Toronto is produced by frequent NBC contributor Lark Productions and Amy Cameron’s production banner Cameron Pictures.
Production on the hour-long drama, which began development with Universal last year, will begin in Toronto this fall, with Citytv set to debut the series in spring 2024.
“The timeless appeal of globally successful cases is explored law and order “The franchise continues to attract Citytv’s audience week after week,” Hayden Mindell, senior vice president of television at Rogers Sports & Media, said in a statement.
Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent will join the original law and order Theatre; Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which is set in New York and stars Vincent D’Onofrio; and other law and order Spinoff series aired by Citytv over the years.
“We are thrilled to partner with Lark Productions and Citytv to bring this series to life. We can’t wait to show off our amazing city law and order Franchise,” Amy Cameron said in a statement.
Universal Television will distribute Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent outside Canada. Erin Haskett, president of Lark Productions, and Cameron, co-founder of Cameron Pictures, will serve as executive producers of the series, which aims to showcase Canadian stories and creative talent.
