“Divisive content”: Canadian singer Shubh’s songs removed from THIS music app

New Delhi: Canadian Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh, known by his stage name Shubh, is in trouble for Saparatist comments. After his shows were canceled, Moj, a short video sharing platform owned by ShareChat, dropped his songs.

A statement from the platform said: “Moj is a brand deeply committed to fostering a vibrant creator community. In keeping with our values, any artist who spreads divisive content has no home on our platform.”

“With this in mind, we have removed artist Shubh’s songs from our in-app music library. We strive to provide our community with joyful moments that reflect our world,” the statement continued.

This comes after BookMyShow announced that the singer’s three-month tour in India has been cancelled. One day before the singer’s tour was canceled, the electronics brand boAt withdrew as a sponsor of the concert.

“While our commitment to the incredible music community at boAt runs deep, we are first and foremost a truly Indian brand. Therefore, when we became aware of artist Shubh’s comments earlier this year, we decided to withdraw our sponsorship from the tour,” the company said, citing the singer’s previous comments.

The trouble began when the singer posted a distorted map of India on his Instagram story a few months ago, conspicuously omitting the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and the northeastern states.

He wrote “Pray for Punjab” alongside the picture, which immediately drew criticism. Singh later deleted the card and replaced it with a message saying “Pray for Punjab” without a picture.
