Canada’s women’s 4x400m relay ranks fourth at World Athletics Championships

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY —

The Canadian women’s 4×400 meter relay finished fourth at the IAAF World Championships on Sunday.

The quartet of Zoe Sherar, Aiyanna Stiverne, Kyra Constantine and Grace Konrad ran a best time of the season of three minutes and 22.42 seconds.

The Netherlands won gold with a world best time of 3:20.72. Jamaica (3:20.88) and Great Britain (3:21.04) took silver and bronze, respectively.

In other results, Moh Ahmed of St. Catharines, Ontario placed seventh in the men’s 5,000 meter dash. Ahmed crossed the finish line in 13:12.92 seconds.

The Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen took gold (13:11,30). Spain’s Mohamed Katir (13:11.44) and Kenya’s Jacob Krop (13:12.28) took silver and bronze, respectively.

Ahmed, 32, is the reigning silver medalist at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics in the 5,000m and took bronze at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The previous Sunday, Calgary’s Rory Linkletter was the leading Canadian in the men’s marathon. With a season best of 2:12:16, he finished 19th.

Ben Preisner (season best 2:15:02) of Milton, Ontario and Justin Kent (2:15:26) of Burnaby, BC finished 28th and 30th, respectively.

Canada finished the World Championships with four gold medals and second only to the USA with twelve gold medals in the medal table with Spain.

Canada took a total of six medals, including two silver medals.
