The sad state of Toronto’s crumbling freeway didn’t escape the eyes of actor Zachary Levi, who mentioned the degraded freeway during a stop at Toronto’s Fan Expo Canada this weekend.
Levi told a packed crowd at the Metro Toronto Convention Center on Saturday that he tries to love everyone and show compassion for what others might be going through, even if he doesn’t like them.
“Bad drivers are the worst.” Am I wrong? I look at these people. On the way. The whole time. On the Gardiner, that’s slowly falling apart,” Levi said. “You have to go, oh, that person has a whole life. Who knows where they came from today? Who knows what they have in their life, be it their spouse or their job or whatever.”

The sad state of the Gardiner has long worried the city. Remediation work has been carried out in recent years to repair the worst spots where chunks of concrete have fallen. Responsibility for the highway was transferred to the city decades ago, but the province has consistently refused to collect tolls for its upkeep.
The east section of the freeway is scheduled to be rebuilt, though Mayor Olivia Chow said during her mayoral campaign that she would like to save the city hundreds of millions of dollars by converting it to a ground-level boulevard instead.
Known for his roles in Shazam and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Levi is no stranger to Toronto, having previously worked here and visited his former Canadian partner.
