An athlete is furious after a transgender competitor broke the championship’s women’s record.
April Hutchinson expressed concern about Anne Andres’ participation in the 2023 Western Canada Championship on Sunday.
Andres, 40, stormed to victory after lifting a combined 200kg more than championship runner-up SuJan Gill.
The transgender powerlifter weighed a total of 597.5 kilograms in the disciplines squat, bench press and deadlift.

Gill’s runner-up weighed a total of 387.5 kilograms.
Hutchinson has criticized the decision to admit Andrew to the competition, calling the 40-year-old’s inclusion “completely unfair”.
She added, “It’s bodies that exercise, not identities.”
“Remember, bodies are biology, not identities playing sports.”

Andres’ total score set a new Canadian national record for women and unofficially surpassed the women’s world record.
“It was very disheartening to see Andres break the record,” Hutchinson told TalkTV.
“Athletes have been following this for years. And we are talking about top athletes who have trained and trained and trained.”
She added, “My boyfriend could basically come over tomorrow, identify as a woman, compete and then be a man again the next day.”
American swimmer Riley Gaines, who is a vocal critic of trans women in women’s sports, took to social media to slam Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

She said, “Justin Trudeau’s radical disdain for women (and reality) is indeed.”
Gaines added, “Andres’ record is a mediocre strength sport by a mediocre male powerlifter because the Canadian Powerlifting Union discriminates against female athletes.”
Andres previously poked fun at powerlifters by claiming they are “that bad” at the bench press.
The 40-year-old said in February: “Why is the women’s bench so bad?”
“‘I mean, not compared to me, we all know I’m a tranny freak, so that doesn’t count.
“I mean, the standard bench in women’s powerlifting competitions. I literally don’t understand why it’s so bad.”
