LANGLEY, BC — The Scarborough Shooting Stars defeated the Calgary Surge 82-70 in the Canadian Elite Basketball League Championship Sunday night at the Langley Events Center.
Scarborough won 29 to 68 from the field. Finals MVP Isiaha Mike had 22 points and nine rebounds for the winners while Cat Barber contributed 23.
Jordy Tshimanga led the Surge with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Although the Shooting Stars didn’t take the lead in the first quarter, they reversed the situation from the second quarter, taking the lead two minutes into the game and not relinquishing it for the rest of the game.
The Shooting Stars, who finished the regular season 11-9 in third place in the East, advanced to Sunday’s showdown with Friday’s 74-71 win over the top-ranked Niagara River Lions in the Eastern Conference Finals .
The Surge led the West with a 12-8 record in the regular season but fell 27-71 in the finals, with their top scorer Jordy Tshimanga clinching ten points in the first quarter but down to five later on Points added the game.
The game ended under the “elam ending” rule, where the game clock stops at four minutes or less in the fourth quarter. The game ends and a target score is set equal to the leading team’s score plus nine. The target score for the championship game has been set at 81.
