The Hague: For the first time, the majority of the government is made up of women

by Edie Jenkins

The Hague.
In the Netherlands, a change of minister made women the majority of the government for the first time. It is still a rarity in the world.

For the first time in the Dutch government, the majority of positions are held by women. This is reported by public broadcaster NOS in the neighboring country.

According to United Nations data, this is only the case in 13 countries worldwide, according to the report – including Spain, France, Rwanda, Canada, Colombia and Albania. Germany is not one of them. Women are underrepresented in politics around the world.

With the appointment of the new Minister of Education, Mariëlle Paul, on Tuesday, gender relations in the Dutch government have changed. Meanwhile, Dutch Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sigrid Kaag announced her withdrawal from politics last week due to continued intimidation and threats. Kaag also spoke about the deplorable misogyny.

The current 29-person Dutch cabinet includes eleven female ministers and four state secretaries. What the relationship will look like in the future will become clear after the new elections in November. The current government has erupted in the dispute over migration policy and is in office only in an executive capacity. (mh)
