67’s Henry Mews and Frankie Marrelli have been called up to the Canada U18 squad

OTTAWA – Hockey Canada announced today that Ottawa 67 defenders Henry Mews and Frankie Marrelli will represent their home country at the 2023 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in Trencin, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.


Mews, 17, was drafted seventh overall by the Barber Poles in 2022. In his rookie season, he played 55 games, recording 12 goals and 19 assists. He ranked fourth among Ontario Hockey League rookie defensemen with 31 points. Mews also skated in all 11 postseason games, recording one goal and three assists.

A local product, Mews captained Team Canada White in the World U17 Hockey Challenge, recording two goals and six assists for eight points in six games en route to the tournament’s All-Star honors.

Marrelli, 17, was Ottawa’s 21st overall pick a year ago and played 50 games in the 2022–23 season. A native of Markham, Ontario, he had four goals and 12 assists (16 points) in 11 playoff games and also recorded three goals and four assists (seven points).

Marrelli also competed in last year’s U17 World Championship and also skated for Team Canada White, recording three assists.

Mews and Marrelli will be joined by Sports Therapist MP Neron, 67, who will handle sports therapy duties for Team Canada.

The tournament will take place from July 31 – August 5, 2023.
