Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the following statement today on Imamate Day:
“Today, on Imamate Day, we join Ismaili Muslims in Canada and around the world in celebrating and honoring the distinguished spiritual leadership of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV as the 49th Hereditary Imam.
“Over the past 66 years, the Aga Khan has improved the lives of millions of people around the world. By the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), His Highness is committed to reducing poverty, improving education and healthcare, empowering women and girls, and developing infrastructure in underserved regions.
“Today we celebrate the rich heritage, remarkable achievements and continued contribution of the Ismailis to our country. Through its steadfast commitment to service and helping those in need, the Ismaili Muslim community embodies the best of what it means to be Canadian.
“In recognition of his commitment to the values of compassion, pluralism, respect for human rights and services to Canada, the Aga Khan was awarded honorary Canadian citizenship in 2010. Canada is hosting the.” Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, the beautiful Aga Khan Garden in Edmonton and collaborates with AKDN Global Center for Pluralism and the Ismaili Imamate’s delegation in Ottawa to invite people of all faiths, backgrounds and cultures to learn and reflect on the actions we can take to build a more inclusive world.
