BC Lions pounce on mistakes in Montreal for a 35-19 CFL triumph

by Horace Rogers

Shaun Shivers scored a touchdown on his debut as the hosts BC Lions recovered from their first loss of the season to defeat the Montreal Alouettes 35-19 on Sunday.

Vernon Adams Jr. played in front of his home crowd at BC Place and scored 20:25 on a touchdown.

The Lions (4-1) also benefited from particular team mishaps by the Alouettes, including a blocked field goal attempt reciprocated by cornerback Jalon Edwards-Coopers.

Cody Fajardo played 24:38 for the Alouettes (2-2) but was sacked six times by an aggressive Lions defense.

Shiver’s first touchdown as a Lion came when he rushed three yards out of shotgun formation to cap a six-game, 45-yard scoring drive in the second quarter and extended the Lions’ lead to seven by that point.

He finished the game with 57 yards and a touchdown.

Mathieu Betts, who leads the league in sacks, increased his tally by two and increased his season record to nine after repeatedly pressuring Fajardo.

The game nearly got off to a nightmare start for the Lions when Adams threw a pick six on play two, but it was recalled for illegal contact by the Als.

The quarterback recovered and led the game’s first scoring drive, backup Dom Davis hitting him from the one-yard line.

The Alouettes have lost their last three of four games against the Lions and their record at BC Place drops to 9-31-1.
