Launch date for Paramount’s Pluto TVs in Canada – The Hollywood Reporter

by Edwin Robertson

Paramount Global will launch Pluto TV, the studio’s free ad-supported streaming TV service, in Canada on December 1st.

Pluto TV’s long-awaited debut north of the border will feature around 100 TV channels and over 20,000 hours of content. The FAST channel’s recent international launch comes at a time when Canadian television viewers are grappling with rising subscription costs and more subscription video deals than ever to compete with Netflix and other streaming giants.

For Pluto TV, which has already launched in the Nordic markets and elsewhere in Europe, local Canadian partner Corus Entertainment will sell local advertising and provide its own US licensing plan for the US-based streaming platform. This also includes offering self-developed series such as Love it or list it And Chopped Canadain addition to US imports like that NCIS Franchise, Judge Judy And Hawaii Five-0.

“Our first channel lineup illustrates once again how we are working to combine Corus’ incredible local content offering with Pluto TV’s global content to meet the tastes of Canadian audiences. I am confident that once launched, Pluto TV will quickly become a new destination for both fans of curated content and customers and partners interested in investing in a new and unique streaming service,” Olivier Jollet, Executive Pluto TV’s vice president and international GM said in a statement that the FAST broadcaster is teaming up to launch in Canada, rather than going hype alone.

Pluto TV is expected to be among the first major US-based free, ad-supported streaming space channels to head north as the looming recession forces Canadians to weigh up which SVOD to go for channels they should continue to pay. At launch, Canadians will be watching Pluto TV over www.pluto.tv and apps for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Android TV, Chromecast, Samsung and LG devices.
