June 18, 2023 – West Coast League (WCL) – Yakima Valley Pippins press release

VICTORIA, British Columbia – It’s safe to say the Yakima Valley Pippins can’t wait to return to the United States.

On Saturday, the Pippins lost their second straight game in Victoria 11-4 and lost four of five games north of the border, dropping them to 5-9 this season.

Russell Young’s grand slam in the third inning put the HarbourCats firmly under control and the Pippins never got closer than four runs as the game progressed.

Five Victoria players had at least two hits in the 15-hit barrage.

Jace Phelan led the Pippins with a 3-on-4 win at the plate, including a line drive home run in the sixth inning. Mike Woodward added a moonshot home run to the left in the seventh run.

Gabe Villaflor also collected several hits for the Pippins and ended the game 2-5.

The Pippins struggled on the mound, with starter Derek McNary giving up six earned runs and six hits in three innings to accept the loss. Joey Harmon also pitched three innings for five earned runs from eight hits.

The road trip ends today with a game at 13:05 against the HarbourCats.
