Fernando Alonso was subject to an FIA investigation ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, with stewards conducting “more extensive physical examinations”.

The 41-year-old currently sits third in the Drivers’ Championship after a great start to the season, although Lewis Hamilton was close with a second-place finish after a disappointing weekend on home soil.

However, Aston Martin remains unfazed by the relative difficulties at Barcelona and team owner Lawrence Stroll claims both drivers could be on the podium this weekend.

The Canadian Grand Prix is ​​very special for the Aston Martin team as it serves as a home race for both owner Lawrence and Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll.

These checks are random and selected from the top ten cars overall to ensure compliance with the sport’s technical regulations.

Luckily for Alonso and Aston Martin, the checks went smoothly and all parts conformed to FIA regulations.

In the official FIA document, she confirmed that “these physical inspections have been carried out on the steering system (including the steering wheel) and all connected sensors, their wiring harness routing and connections to the SECU and other units.”
