ONA First Vice President Angela Preocanin is appointed CFNU Secretary and Ontario Nurses’ Association Treasurer

ONA First Vice President Angela Preocanin became Secretary and Treasurer of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) last week, June 5-9, at the CFNU Biennial Convention in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. appointed.

Preocanin replaces Pauline Worsfold of the United Nurses of Alberta who has resigned from CFNU effective immediately.

Preocanin is a Registered Nurse who has served in leadership positions at ONA’s Local 75 for the past two decades. She has worked in thoracic surgery, head and neck surgery, emergency care and home hemodialysis. She will continue in her current role as First Vice President on the ONA Board of Directors.

CFNU is the umbrella organization for nursing unions in nine provinces across Canada, representing over 250,000 nurses and 40,000 associate student members.

More than 1,000 nurses met in person for the first time in four years and participated in the CFNU Biennial, whose theme, Together We Made It, highlighted the vital role of solidarity in creating positive change for nurses, Canadian communities and health at expresses. care systems.

Preocanin says it is a great honor to be trusted by the CFNU membership to contribute to the advocacy needed to get Canada’s healthcare system back on track.

“Canada’s public health system is still recovering from the disaster of the pandemic, and across Canada, the nursing workforce is terrible. Together we can find solutions and stand up for them,” she said.

Linda Silas, who has served as President of the CFNU for two decades, is a well-known and passionate spokesperson for care issues and labor rights. From 1990 to 2000 she was President of the New Brunswick Nurses Union.
