The following people are at risk of health problems due to poor air quality:
* Individuals with respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, COPD and emphysema
* Children and young people
* Anyone who is outdoors for long periods of time and engages in vigorous physical activity
* Healthy people who are sensitive to ozone
People in these groups are advised to minimize or avoid outdoor physical exertion and avoid sources of air pollution such as fires and traffic.
The MPCA also encourages everyone to control their contribution to pollution on Alert Days by minimizing car trips, postponing the use of lawn or other gas-powered equipment, and not starting yard fires.
