Saskatchewan Roughriders release veteran Canadian running back LaFrance | NanaimoNewsNOW

by Horace Rogers

The CFL begins its 23rd regular season Thursday with BC taking on the Calgary Stampeders.

The 1.70 meter tall and 100 kilogram LaFrance had spent the last three seasons with Saskatchewan. Last year he rushed for 39 yards nine times and added five receptions for 28 yards in 11 contests.

LaFrance was on his second stint with Saskatchewan, having previously played for the franchise in 2017.

LaFrance added four special teams tackles in 2022. The former Manitoba Bison star also spent time in the CFL at Ottawa (2015-16) and Winnipeg (2018).

LaFrance has played 104 regular-season games in his career, rushing for 681 yards and four touchdowns on 165 carries. He also has 49 catches for 361 yards and two touchdowns.

Saskatchewan also signed American offensive player Colin Kelly. The 5’11, 298-pound American most recently played with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, but last year started 16 games in both right and left tackle with the Edmonton Elks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

American defensive lineman Miles Fox, who played in three regular-season games for BC last season, was among ten players the club had sacked. Sophomore receiver Josh Pearson, also an American who had two catches for 73 yards and a touchdown in 2022 before a knee injury cut short his season, was among 11 players added to the practice roster.
