Moose Jaw Public Library has received a grant from the Canadian Space Agency as it prepares to open its Summer Reading Club later this month.
The children’s librarian Tina Dolecetti applied for the scholarship last year. Funds go to new equipment, special programs and the Summer Reading Club.
“We applied with a few different requests including some topics around rental technology, others robotics, 3D printing, hoping to do an astronaut talk, but that’s a work in progress and will be in September,” the deputy said Chief Librarian Shevaun Ruby.
The Summer Reading Club kicks off on June 17th at 2pm with a party in the library. The party includes games, crafts, a movie, treats, face painting and more. This year’s theme is “A Galactic Adventure”.
Ruby added that the funding will stay true to the reading club’s space theme.
“It’s all about raising awareness of STEM, which is science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” she said.
Any children interested in joining the Summer Reading Club but unable to come to the party can collect their gear anytime after June 17th during the library’s regular hours.
