Consider celebrated hockey players Marie-Philip Poulin and Laura Stacey as teammates for life.
The Team Canada stars announced their engagement on social media, with a photo posted to Poulin’s verified Instagram account shows the smiling couple on the beach while Stacey brandishes a ring on her right hand.
The accompanying caption is adorned with heart and ring emojis and reads, “She said OUI.”
Olympic hockey players Brianne Jenner, Jill Saulnier, Natalie Spooner, Rebecca Johnston and Cheryl Pounder were among those who offered congratulations via their verified Instagram accounts.
Poulin, the 32-year-old team captain, and 29-year-old Stacey were among Canadian athletes to take silver at the recent IIHF Women’s World Championship.
They also played together on Team Canada, winning gold at the Beijing 2022 Games and silver at the PyeongChang 2018 Games.
Poulin also represented Canada at the Sochi 2014 Games and the Vancouver 2010 Games.
“So… that’s what happened,” Poulin says in Friday’s Instagram post.
“Best question I’ve ever asked… She said OUI.”
“Couldn’t be happier for you both! What an exciting chapter,” replied figure skater Tessa Virtue from her verified account @tessavirtue17.
“I’ve already started stretching for this dance floor!” Saulnier said from her account called jill.saulnier.
“Power couple,” Jenner posted on bjenner19.
