The final four teams competing in the 2023 Canadian Championship will clash in a semi-final doubleheader showdown on Wednesday, May 24 as the annual Battle of the North draws to a close. The two knockout games will be played back-to-back with Canadian club football taking center stage and winners qualifying for the Canadian Championship final in early June.
CF Montréal host Forge FC in the opening game at Stade Saputo (7pm local time / 7pm ET / 4pm PT), followed by Pacific FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Starlight Stadium Vancouver Island (7pm local time / 10pm ET / 7pm PT) . Both games will be broadcast live on OneSoccer. Extended coverage of the Canadian Championship will be shared across Canada Soccer’s digital channels including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube with the hashtag #CanChamp.
The clash between CF Montréal and Forge FC is the third consecutive year that the two teams have met in the Canadian Championship and the second time they have met in the semi-finals. CF Montréal eliminated Forge FC in the 2021 semifinals and 2022 quarterfinals in the previous two encounters.
Pacific FC meets 2022 champions Vancouver Whitecaps FC in an all-British Columbia semi-final. Just two years ago, Pacific FC defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Starlight Stadium in the preliminary round of the 2021 competition.
Canada Soccer’s Canadian Championship, also known as the ‘Battle of the North’, is the country’s premier national men’s competition, attended by clubs from across the country, notably professional teams from Major League Soccer and the Canadian Premier League, as well as League1 BC league winners , League1 Ontario and Ligue1 Quebec (Première ligue de football du Quebec). The 2023 Canadian Championship winners win the Voyageurs Cup and qualify for the annual international competition, the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. Winners of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup.
