Tyneisha, also known as Ty the Poetess, will host an open mic event for local poets and spoken word artists on May 19 in downtown Barrie at the CW Coop’s.
This event provides a platform for emerging and established artists to share their poetry and connect with like-minded people.
Ty brings Dwayne Morgan, “the godfather of Canadian spoken word,” to see Barrie.
Dwayne Morgan is a two-time Canadian poetry slam champion. He began his career in 1993 as a spoken word artist. In 1994 he founded Up From the Roots Entertainment to promote the positive artistic contributions of African-Canadian and urban-influenced artists.
Dwayne has performed for former President of the United States Barack Obama, former Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean, late NDP leader Jack Layton and shared the stage with many of Canada’s finest artists including Russell Peters while performing for international artists Alicia opened Keys and recorded with Canadian artists including Drake.
This event is open to anyone who wishes to participate, whether they are experienced poets or just want to share a few words. It promises to be a night of inspiration, creativity and community building.
