Canada’s top Ultimate teams and players will go head-to-head in Surrey this summer.
The “Prestigious” 2023 Canadian Ultimate Championships are coming to Newton Athletic Park August 13-20, Surrey Sports Tourism Office announced on Wednesday (April 26).
Disc sports players and spectators “have the opportunity to experience some of the best ultimate action while enjoying world-class facilities, beautiful parks and a vibrant community,” according to a press release from City Hall.
The tournament, held in partnership with Ultimate Canada, the British Columbia Ultimate Society and the Vancouver Ultimate League Society, should be an “exciting event,” according to Tara Cleave, the city’s Support Services and Accessibility Manager.
The junior championships will be played first on August 13-16, followed by a senior tournament on August 17-20. The Masters National Championship will be held in Kelowna on July 28-30.
“The Championships provide athletes with an opportunity to show off their skills, connect with other players and celebrate the sport we all love,” said Danny Saunders, executive director of Ultimate Canada.
Workshops, skills clinics and other activities are also planned for participants and spectators.

Ultimately, the “kickoff” is called a “pull,” and the team then moves the disc across the field by throwing it to other players. Points are scored if the disc is caught in the end zone. Without referees, the games are supervised by the players themselves.
