Health Canada is encouraging Canadians to check their kitchen cupboards and tables as the agency has recalled more than 30 types of Indigo brand items including ceramic mugs, mug ornaments and housewares due to potential mold contamination.
In a recall alert posted on its website On Tuesday, the agency clarified that the Indigo products selected may have been subjected to “wet conditions” which could have caused the presence of mold under the glass surfaces of the products.
The recalled items include various holiday mugs and other household items such as a cookie jar, serving plates and a saucepan.
“Mold ingestion may pose a risk of gastrointestinal symptoms and infections in consumers with compromised immune systems,” the agency said in the statement.
As of Jan. 30, there have been no reports of injuries or product incidents, he adds. According to Health Canada, nearly 22,000 affected products were sold in Canada between August and December 2022.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Indigo at 1-833-463-4461 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. EST or by email at service@indigo.ca or visit the company’s website. indigo online for more information. Products can be returned to Indigo for a full refund, Health Canada says.
The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits the recalled items from being sold, redistributed or given away.
In a notice on its website posted Jan. 27, Indigo says the products were voluntarily recalled as a “precautionary measure” due to potential mold growth and called the possible growth “traces.”
