Facebook tests news feed with minimal political content in Indonesia

Facebook slowly expanding its efforts to limit political content in the News Feed. The tech giant is currently testing the restriction feature in 75 countries, including Indonesia.

The newsfeed update came after his party conducted a survey of users around the world. A lot of people complain about having a politically inspired news feed that they don’t like.

Respondents said they missed out on the old Facebook used to connect people, not to force users into the Trump vs. Biden political battle.

Facebook introduced the latest version of the news feed in the United States, Costa Rica, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, Canada, Brazil and Indonesia. The update marks a significant expansion effort, bringing the total number of countries involved to over 80.

He did not identify which countries had recently joined the test, but a spokesperson confirmed the company was showing changes in the news feed for a “small percentage of people” in each country.

The spokesperson added that countries which will organize political competitions and those which are at “higher risk of conflict” are not included in the test.

Mark Zuckerberg first announced his intention to create a news feed limited to political content in January, a few weeks after the uprising by supporters of Donald Trump on Capitol Hill.

Providing the latest features to more countries should help Facebook learn more about how to ease tensions on its platform.

This is seen as effective because Facebook is accused of being a place where Trump supporters stoke anger, to get many parties involved.
