TASS November 2. Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Canadian Rebecca Marino in the second match of the Billie Jean King Cup women’s tennis tournament. The competitions take place in the Czech Republic.
The meeting ended with a score of 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 2 in favor of the Russian woman. In the first match, which took place earlier on Tuesday, Russia’s Daria Kasatkina beat Carol Zhao (6: 3, 6: 1). The matches in the tag team tournament consist of two singles and one double, with the Russian team taking a 2-0 lead and defeating the Canadian ahead of schedule.
Later on Tuesday, in the doubles match, Veronica Kudermetova and Ekaterina Aleksandrova will face Gabriela Dabrowski and Marino. On November 3, the Russians will play with the France team.
The Russian national team plays in group A with French and Canadian women. The Russian team is represented by Pavlyuchenkova, Kudermetova, Kasatkina, Aleksandrova and Lyudmila Samsonova. Canada beat France 2-1 on Monday.
The Billie Jean King Cup was previously called the Federation Cup and was renamed in 2020 in honor of American tennis player Billie Jean King, an active fighter for gender equality in the sport. The tournament takes place on “hard” surface courts, 12 teams participate in the competition, divided into four groups, the group winners will reach the semi-finals, the final will take place on November 6. The current winner of the tournament is the French team.
