The organization of the classification Research info source (RI) declares Ontario Tech one of Canada’s Best Small Research Universities.

The Oshawa institution ranked second among 21 small universities in Canada. In Ontario alone, it was number one.

Ontario Tech ranked third (Canada-wide) in business search revenue at $5.465 million in fiscal year 2020-21.

It also ranked third for enterprise search as a percentage of total search revenue, at 25.8%.

In the five years between 2017 and 2021, Ontario Tech was first among small universities for Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) research income, at $20.2 million.

Over the same period, it ranked first in NSERC funding as a percentage of total research income, at 25.8%.

“The Research Infosource rankings provide compelling evidence of the rapid growth and momentum of Ontario Tech University’s research-intensive enterprise,” said Dr. Les Jacobs, Vice President of Research and innovation. “The collective scholarly output of our exceptional and talented scholars is at the top of our Canadian academic standing.

“Ontario Tech has earned serious research rights as an influential hub of knowledge and expertise,” added Dr. Jacobs. “The community of Oshawa, Durham Region and beyond should be very proud of the discovery, innovation and ethical applications of real-world technology championed on our campus.”
