Journalist Jonathan Beyer said the announcer, who worked on the Skate Canada Grand Prix stage, disrespectfully portrayed Russian figure skater Alena Kostornaya.
“I don’t know if you watched the warm-up. When the skaters were introduced we heard something similar: “Karen Chen, fourth place at the World Championship. And then: “Kostornaya. She left Tutberidze for Plushenko, then asked the Eteri team if she could come back. “It’s disgusting,” Beyer said on Youtube-канале The skating lesson.
At the second stop of the Skate Canada Figure Skating Grand Prix, held in Vancouver, Kostornaya scored 214.54 points on the sum of two programs and took third place in the singles competition.
Kostornaya won gold at the 2020 European Championship in Graz. She is also the winner of the Grand Prix finals, silver medalist and double bronze medalist of the Russian championship.
Before the start of the 2020/21 season, the skater left Eteri Tutberidze’s squad for the academy of two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko, but a year later she returned to a specialist.
Previously Kostornaya thanked Tutberidze and choreographer Daniil Gleichengauz for not having turned away from her.
