The Northern Ontario Health and Safety Association has found its footing during the pandemic

Workplace Safety North (WSN) received a National Achievement Award.

The health and safety association headquartered in North Bay is the platinum recipient of the Canada Award of Excellence in the Healthy Workplace category.

This is the third such award for WSN. The 80-employee organization won silver in this category in 2016 and added a gold medal to the trophy in 2019.

WSN provides government-approved health and safety training and services for the forest products and mining industries. The not-for-profit organization is one of four health and safety organizations in Ontario.

The award is based on Excellence Canada’s Canadian Standard for a Healthy Workplace, developed in partnership with Health Canada and in association with health and wellness professionals. Excellence Canada is a national organization that specializes in the training, implementation and certification of organizational excellence in Canada.

In a press release, WSN President and CEO Paul Andre was honored to receive the award.

“It is particularly relevant for a health and safety association and recognizes all that our staff have done to be able to get through the pandemic to help other workers in other companies stay safe and healthy,” said he declared.

WSN has a second office in Sudbury and staff dispersed throughout Ontario providing expert information, an in-class and online training program, on-site consultations, health and safety audits, industrial hygiene, ergonomic assessments and resolution of specific problems.
