Public health officials are lifting retail capacity restrictions for some communities in the Southern Health region where vaccination rates are higher, the province said Monday.
The changes will come into effect Tuesday in the communities of Cartier, Headingley, Macdonald, Ritchot (Niverville-Ritchot), Saint-François Xavier and Taché, according to a press release from the province.
These communities have vaccination rates similar to those in Winnipeg, even though they are in the Southern Health Region, Dr Brent Roussin, the province’s chief public health officer, told a news conference. Monday.
Retail capacity has been limited to 50% in the Southern Health Region since early October as the region has seen a disproportionate number of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks and contains Manitoba communities with rates of lowest vaccination.
This restriction will remain in place for the rest of the region for at least the next three weeks, just like other COVID-19 rules currently in place, Roussin said.
Current restrictions are maintained to limit cases of COVID-19 as the fourth wave of the pandemic continues, he said.
